01 · Risk

Climbing is at your own risk

All climbing and activity at the climbing centre involves risk. To minimise this risk, all visitors are required to follow the climbing centre's safety rules. Everyone must sign to confirm they have read and understood the safety rules before climbing with us. For persons under 18, a parent or guardian must sign.

All climbing and time spent in the climbing centre is at your own risk. Rana Klatresenter is not liable for damages that may arise from climbing or other activity at the centre. Rana Klatresenter is responsible for keeping the facility in a safe condition. This includes climbing surfaces, anchors, and other fixed equipment.

If you have any health issues, injuries, or other conditions that may affect your ability to climb or move safely around the centre, you should consult a doctor before taking part in the activity.

02 · Being in the centre

Before you enter the hall

  • Everyone who wants to be in the climbing centre must first check in at reception.
  • Children under 13 who are in the climbing centre must be supervised by a responsible adult (18+). The adult is responsible for making sure any accompanying children are informed about and follow the rules.
  • Persons aged 13 to 17 may be in the climbing centre unsupervised once a parent or guardian has signed the liability declaration. When taking part in an organised activity, participants must follow the instructions of the responsible instructor.
  • No running, shouting, or horseplay inside the climbing centre.
  • Watch out — objects (climbing holds, carabiners, and other loose items) can fall. Be mindful of where you stand and where you choose to be when you are not climbing.
  • Bags, jackets, prams, and other belongings must not be placed in escape routes or block firefighting equipment.
  • You must not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol while in the climbing centre.
  • If you notice faults or defects in the facility that increase risk, or see behaviour that could lead to accidents, you are required to notify staff.
03 · On the wall

General rules for all climbing

  • Do not bring loose objects up onto the wall.
  • Do not put your fingers in bolt hangers or other steel fittings.
  • Climbing and belaying must be done with UIAA- and CE-approved equipment.
  • Barefoot climbing is not allowed.
  • Use a chalk ball or liquid chalk, not loose chalk — this is due to the indoor air quality.
04 · Bouldering

Without rope and harness

  • You must have completed safety training given by a climbing host before you start bouldering (or watch our safety video).
  • You are responsible for knowing and following the bouldering rules poster and the instructions posted in the climbing centre.
  • The climber higher on the wall has the right of way, and climbers below must never enter another climber's fall zone.
  • You are responsible for making sure other boulderers do not fall on you. Avoid staying in fall zones.
  • Look before you jump down. Climb down if possible. Use the grey down-climbing holds.
  • The mats are only for falling on — playing or running on the crash pads is not allowed. This also applies in the kids' corner.
  • Do not leave objects on the mats.
  • Resting boulderers should give way to active boulderers.
05 · Autobelay

Automatic belaying

  • Using an autobelay requires its own safety training given by climbing staff (or watch our safety video).
  • Always do a buddy check every time you clip in.
  • Children under 13 must be clipped in and out by an adult.
  • Stay on the routes below the autobelay device — climbing too far to the side can cause a risky pendulum fall. Never climb past the device.
  • You can use an autobelay if you weigh between 15 and 140 kg.
06 · Rope climbing

With rope and belay partner

  • Everyone climbing at the centre must have read the Klatrevettplakaten (the Norwegian climbing code-of-conduct poster) and follow its rules.
  • You must hold a Brattkort (the Norwegian Climbing Federation's belay certification) to belay a climber at the centre. Other belay certifications may be approved by agreement with climbing staff.
  • On lead climbs, all bolts must be clipped.
  • Where there is a large weight difference between climber and belayer, risk-reducing measures must be considered.
  • Never clip two ropes into the same carabiner.
  • Where there is a queue for the same route, whoever was first in line has the right to climb first.
  • A person over 18 with a Brattkort or top-rope certification may guide someone without a belay certification, provided the guide always holds the dead end of the rope, stays on the ground, and gives the belayer their full attention.
  • Any activity outside the standard NKF (Norwegian Climbing Federation) method for top-roping and lead climbing must be cleared with climbing staff before starting.
07 · Sanctions and removal

In case of rule violations

  • Breaking the safety rules can result in immediate removal from the centre, regardless of ticket or membership status.
  • Staff have the right to revoke belay certification or refuse the use of equipment if the rules are not followed.
  • Repeated or serious violations can result in a temporary or permanent ban from the centre.
